Edited from November 2014 and January 2015, this was the first 'Horizon' to be made in Scotland for a long time. Director David Briggs and camera operator Tom Hayward captured an amazing story - and one which was a pleasure to cut together.
This was the first part of a two part series where scientists were investigation Icebergs. This episode concentrated on how icebergs are formed, with the scientists living next to a massive glacier for three months. It was a technological feat to bring back all the footage - and an incredible experience editing it all together.
Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller is one of Britain’s most unconventional artists. He doesn’t draw, sculpt or paint and didn’t go to art school but his work has done more to push the boundaries of art than any other artist of his generation. Best known for his collaborative projects with striking miners, brass bands, and pop fans, The Culture Show follows this fascinating man as he revisits some of his major works to date.
This won a Grierson Award (Best Arts Documentary) in 2012.
Episode 3 of the BBC1 series 'City in The Sky'. This episode dealt with landing the plane, and this clip is the opening scene - the most dangerous landing in the world to Paro airport in Bhutan. My favourite part is when the plane final rounds the corner - where I put on the 'Bwaaaaaaaaa' sounds as though it were a monster coming in to land.
The second part in a four part series about the history of Scottish Art, this episode covered 'The Enlightenment'. The challenge here was to keep the story bright and alive through a period which was predominantly portraits.
This series showcased people who had seemingly super human powers - like Dean Karnazes, known as the Ultra Marathon Man who can run for days without stopping. The big challenge at the end of this programme was to run for 10 hours in Death Valley at 40C - which he managed - without breaking sweat! The whole series was bright, fast, fun and loud.
This particular episode gained me a nomination for best editing at the RTS Scotland awards.
